Debut News and an Oprah Face Running Picture







Speaking of Running, you know one of my "friends" tracked down the pictures of me running that blasted race last weekend, but I am going to spare you those details. Oprah-face pictures, I hate to admit it, but they were. Thehy sifted through tens of thousands on online pictures. Actually all they had to do was enter a bib number and they can find a runner. I tell you, big brother is watching. I'm sure its useful to someone, I wish I'd thought of it, but as far as I'm concerned, that is right up there with the treadmill that flashes your weight in bug, bright numbers when you step onto it so that all those people on the cardio machines behind you can see it.
I am going to share pictures with you of my trip to Atlanta and Alabama this past weekend. I had my first even booksigning in a Walmart Store.
I walked in and was greeted by a HUGE banner of myself hanging in the front of the store. I'd always thought that something like that would be like seeing your name in lights, but it wasn't. My pores were HUGE, I mean no one should ever see themselves that big, just like noone should ever see themselves in a 10K race photo. Ugh. The signing was wonderful though and those blue dots were falling down all over the place.
It was on to Opelika then for the premiere of Marrying up. I was not prepared! It was so wonderful. The cast was wonderful. EVERY ONE OF THEM FOLKS COULD SANG! No wonder they wouldn't let me be in it. I didn't realize how excited I was until I got suddenly hungry after the show. I do not think I had eaten for three days. GDavis Plays did a fabulous job of bringing my characters to life, and John Forbes, the musical director, I just can't say enough about the work that he did. The first single from the CD is already hitting the airwaves in several states.

Link to the theme song. Its already being played on the radio. Next time I'll tell you how you can get a copy of the soundtrack.

Garrett played a character called Get-Right. He stole the show. He was UP HERE and the rest, well, they were down there. See the show when you get a chance and you'll know what I mean.

I came up with a name for the team; me, Garrett Davis and John Forbes--The Mod Squad.

The show was FABULOUS and Get-Right really did steal the show, but your on-stage antics were entertaining as well. Thanks for putting together an entertaining evening in Opelika and good luck with the rest of the show!

It's a wrap for me! 2023 was good to me. in terms of experiences and opportunities that came my way, but now its time for some rest and relaxation. I'm taking the rest of the year off, from EVERYTHING...day job, passion projects included. I set goals at the beginning of the year, on reviewing them, I accomplished several, but if it's not done now, it's not gonna get done in the last 2 1/2 weeks of the year. I could sprint for the finish line and fall over, it, exhausted, or I can step back and learn lessons from the 12 months that I worked towards these goals. I'm choosing the latter. I am going to slow down to refocus so that I can step into 2024 properly paced. Taking a break may seem counterintuitive to some, but it's not a sign of weakness, it's an act of self care. I'm a writer. I'm a coach, and I am an UX Research Leader. Creativity fuels my work, but when constantly on the go, the wellspring of inspiration can run dry. Or you just get tired.

What are friends for?

So, you get a call, a request, an email from a friend. When you need money, what do you do? Do you repeatedly depend on friends to solve your cash flow problems if you have them? Or do you find other ways to meet your fiscal needs. This is a dilemma. I'm not talking about the type of crisis where you need some money to pay the rent, buy the groceries, feed the kids, but the type of crisis where its just not clear. And if you find yourself there, do you find yourself there over and over again? Let’s say, I have a legal problem. I need a lawyer. How do I get the money together to pay the lawyer’s retainer.
